After successful installation of Ubuntu 12.04 on my HP Pavilion g4 with ATI Radeon HD 6470M graphic card, then it happen that my Ubuntu work like Ubuntu 2D. I already installed the fglrx driver for ATI video card, but when I open the Catalyst Control Center I got this message:
Initialization error:
There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition.
It could be caused by the following.
No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning
properly. Please install the ATI driver appropriate for you ATI hardware,
or configure using aticonfig.
Happen to drop by in AskUbuntu.com and get some answer.
Here’s how I was able to work Ubuntu 3D again in my HP Pavilion g4.
1. sudo apt-get remove fglrx
2. wget http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver-installer-11-5-x86.x86_64.run
3. cd /path_of_the_file
4. sh ./ati-driver-installer-11-5-x86.x86_64.run
5. restart and login to Ubuntu 3D
By now, it works fine Ubuntu 3D.
Update: to install the latest ATI Radeon HD6470M Graphic Driver, see this post.
